A lot of the shelters describe their available pets in first person. Which becomes hilarious when they insert passive aggressive comments towards the people that gave the animal up—particularly after adopting it, which I think is terrible too.
“Separation anxiety is an intense fear of being abandoned again. Once my people left me alone, I immediately went into a state of panic thinking that they would never come back for me like those before them. I chewed on things to calm myself down. This would have gone away if the people had come back in short periods of time or if they simply crated me. I only had to gain my self confidence back and it could have been done, but instead these people abandoned me back at the shelter too.”
Another woman at the shelter told me that someone had returned a cat because she was “offended” by how much he liked his toy. Essentially, he was humping it. I’ve had two cats that do that, it’s super common. I can’t believe that would offend someone. Welcome to the South, I guess! We morally judge and slut shame cats as well as people!
