It’s weird to be submitting to lit magazines all the time as a writer and in contact with them directly as a magazine editor. I am very good about not mentioning the submissions.

I’m in this position as well. Though a few weeks ago I wrote a place I have been waiting for an rejection answer from for far, far too long and I did raise it. I hate bothering people, so I essentially said, “Since I work for a literary magazine, I know you’re most likely backed up at the end of your fiscal year…” just because it made me feel less obnoxious for bothering them.
